Minutes of committee meeting on July 14th 2020

Meeting was relatively informal and concise as the partner IFAC TC happened just a few hours earlier and several attendees are members of both. Minutes for that are available here: https://tc.ifac-control.org/9/4

A brief report was given on the numerous control education contributions that members have been making over the past year. Members encouraged to continue with this.

The main focus was on possible TC projects and priorities for the future.

Damiano discussed the potential to exploit our understanding of modelling and feedback processes to improve teaching, or more specifically, to allow student learning to be individualised effectively, that is,  using student performance and actions to accurately point students towards future resources and tasks. A suggestion that focus around a 1st course in control may enable  the development of a tool kit/resources that can be shared effectively.

Elena was very interested in the TC supporting disadvantaged persons/communities/countries/genders/diversity better. This had a strong overlap with Danny's imminent role as chair of A2C2 and the outreach activities at ACC. It was agreed that the TC would work in with parallel members in the IFAC TC to develop materials, workshops and so forth to support outreach activities, both face-to-face and remote,  to a variety of groups. Most members present were happy or indeed enthusiastic to be actively involved.
